Some of Vienna’s most famous landmarks are only a short walk from the Hotel Kaiserhof. St Stephen’s Cathedral, the city’s Gothic landmark, is a 15-minute walk away; climb the 343 steps to the Türmerstube for a sweeping view over the rooftops. Karlskirche, the baroque masterpiece by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, is just 5 minutes on foot and hosts concerts by the ‘Orchestra 1756’ on original instruments. The Belvedere, 10 minutes away, houses major works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka, and is one of many highlights for sightseeing in Vienna.
There is always something happening, too, from open-air film screenings on Rathausplatz in summer to the Wiener Festwochen, so it is worth seeing what’s on in Vienna before you travel.

Taste, shop and unwind

For food lovers, the Naschmarkt is a must: around 120 market stalls and eateries serve everything from Viennese classics to international dishes, with a popular flea market every Saturday. For a more local feel, the Meidlinger Markt, founded in 1873, and the romantic courtyards of Spittelberg next to the MuseumsQuartier are well worth seeking out.
When it comes to shopping, the pedestrianised Kärntnerstraße runs from Stephansplatz to the State Opera, while the elegant Graben and the Goldenes Quartier are home to Vienna’s finest traditional shops and international designer labels.
To slow the pace, escape to the city’s green spaces: the Stadtpark with its golden Johann Strauss monument, the Volksgarten with more than 3,000 rose bushes, or the wide avenues of the baroque Augarten.
