Our family has prided itself on hospitality and service for eight generations. When the Kaiserhof was built by Robert Mayerhofer in 1896, in typical turn-of-the-century style, it was one of the most modern hotels of its day. Even back then, the blueprint of the architect Gustav Matthies already included a guest elevator, central heating and electricity. The hotel’s name can be traced to the close friendship between the Mayerhofer family and Archduchess Marie Therese, who convinced her brother in law, Emperor Franz Joseph, to approve of the name Kaiserhof (“Emperor’s Court”). Since inception, the hotel has been expanded and adapted to better meet the needs of guests.
Our family took over the Hotel Kaiserhof in 1974.
In 1983, the Kaiserhof became a member of the Best Western Reservation System. As a result, the percentage of US guests staying at the hotel has since increased significantly.
In 1990 and 1991, we expanded the hotel from four floors to six, adding 11 double rooms and 3 suites.
Between 1998 and 2002, all guest rooms, the entry hall, the reception, the breakfast room and the lobby were completely renovated. We also installed wellness facilities – consisting of a fitness room, sauna and steam bath – and a modern seminar area. The Hotel Kaiserhof Vienna totals 74 friendly guest rooms and 144 beds.
Our hotel not only enjoys a rich tradition, but also a quiet, central location that has attracted guests for over a century. And, with quality service to match, it is not surprising that so many of today’s visitors keep coming back.
The Kaiserhof’s harmonious blend of tradition and modern comfort is furthermore accompanied by a fresh, vibrant styling. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that every guest will eagerly quote an often-used phrase by Emperor Franz Joseph on departure: “It was very lovely. I had a very pleasant time.”
