The Sports Town
“The Sports Town” is certainly a fitting nickname for Kitzbühel – not only for the main events that draw thousands, but also for the many niche sports. From “exotics” like curling, to skiing, hiking and everything in between, one thing is for sure: sporting activities in Kitzbühel are not only healthy and fun, but they also help maintain a positive outlook on life!
Top international sports competitions and events have been held in Kitzbühel for decades. Most famous among them is surely the Hahnenkamm downhill race on the Streif piste, a nerve-wracking challenge even for the top World Cup skiers. Also on the calendar: the Triathlon World Cup, where only the very fittest survive the chase through water, and then up and down a hilly course; and the Kitzalpbike mountain bike race, a demanding cross-country test with brutal climbs and descents. Higher, faster, farther!
